Barbilla National Park

This national park protects 11´938 hectares (29´500 acres) of mostly untouched humid lowland rainforest along the Caribbean slopes of the Talamanca Mountain Range. It is part of the La Amistad Biosphere Reserve, created by UNESCO in 1982 as a “world heritage site” to protect important ecological systems in Costa Rica and Panama.

Barbilla is one of the least visited parks in the country and is home to the Cabécar, Costa Rica’s second-largest indigenous group. Due to its difficult access, the area still conserves a mostly natural state and is one of the few places in Costa Rica where you can still find all six species of wild cats.
